Valentina Sarmiento Cruz

As an independent writer and researcher, Valentina is interested in the social construction of space and sociolinguistics. Her projects and collaborations have been published in Mexico, US, Canada, Hungary, Slovenia, Germany, Netherlands, and Portugal. Previously, she worked at The Art Institute of Chicago, The University of Chicago, Artforum, and Creative Time.

As a simultaneous interpreter and translator, she has covered numerous formats and themes including workshops, conferences, and debates on immigrant and human rights, gender equity, environmental justice, food sovereignty, child development, and art. She holds a master’s degree in Liberal Studies from The New School for Social Research and a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the National Autonomous University of México. 

For her, translating The Funambulist represents an opportunity to amplify the reach and diversity of the dialogues featured in the magazine, as she continues to learn with and from her team about those narratives of resistance and how to best convey and honor them in different languages and for different audiences.
