Sofía Kourí is an artist, designer, researcher and a recent graduate of Yale College, where she received a B.A. in architecture and a certificate in human rights. She is broadly interested in borderlands and their spatiality, and has worked with legal organizations on the U.S.-Mexico border conducting intakes with detained asylum-seekers and producing alternative, legally-drawn cartographies from this work. She is also interested in questions of memory and post-atrocity space. In Chile and Mexico particularly, she has studied the politicized construction and design of social housing, examining how state-sanctioned violence unfolds in these spaces and engages with them in formal terms. Sofía joined The Funambulist team in the fall of 2024, and is currently managing communications for The Funambulist’s hispanophone project.
