Ruth Wilson Gilmore is Professor of Geography and Director of the Center for Place, Culture, and Politics at the City University of New York Graduate Center. A co-founder of many grassroots organizations including California Prison Moratorium Project, and Critical Resistance, she works on racial capitalism, organized violence, organized abandonment, changing state structure, criminalization, environmental justice, labor and social movements, and abolition as a green, red, and international necessity. She is the author of Golden Gulag: Prisons, Surplus, Crisis, and Opposition in Globalizing California (2007), Abolition Geography: Essays Towards Liberation (2022), and soon-to-be published Change Everything: Racial Capitalism and the Case for Abolition (forthcoming December 2023).
