Piergianna Mazzocca

Mazzocca Piergianna

Piergianna Mazzocca graduated as an architect from the University of the Andes, in Merida, Venezuela. After her studies, she cofounded and worked as an architect in Taller de Arquitectura Singular. She has been a project coordinator and director for the office since 2011 until 2015, developing projects from different scales and in different locations. She recently graduated cum laude at The Berlage Centre for Advanced Studies in Architecture and Urban Design, Delft University of Technology. She engages with research as a project. In this regard, her approach towards research is by doing -whether it is a paper or a Serlian central perspective- believing that one can not theorize before doing because both are things that should be done in parallel. Always eager to talk about the elephant in the room, she understands the world through aesthetic associations. For her individual thesis at the Berlage, she employed research as a means to stage scenes where her assumptions could be tested, reinterpreting Classical methods into contemporary research. Her interests lie in aesthetics, the history of architecture, and architectural representation. She is currently based in Milan.
