Marc-Alexandre Tareau has a doctorate in ethnobotany and health anthropology. He defended his thesis at the University of French Guiana in November 2019, entitled: “The mixed pharmacopoeias of Guiana: an ethnobotanical look at phytotherapy in motion.” His work focuses mainly on the modes of interaction between humans and their plant biodiversity within the different populations of the Guiana Shield and the Caribbean. He is also interested in the representations of the body and illness, as well as the diversity of ethno-medicinal practices, particularly plant-based treatments, when studied in their dynamic and intercultural aspects.
