Maïa Tellit Hawad is a French independent scholar of Tuareg origins, based in Marseille. Trained as a philosopher (Sorbonne, EHESS – Paris 7), her research revolves around the imaginary of the Sahara in French Africanist sciences and the intersection of colonial, racial, and geographical logics within the current administration policies/politics of the central Sahara. Her recent work focuses on nomadic becomings in contemporary Tuareg societies. She is currently co-directing her first documentary on Tuareg women musicians from the Agadez region.
