Jaime do Amparo Alves is an assistant professor of Anthropology at the College of Staten Island of the City University of New York and an affiliate researcher at the Centro de Estudios Afrodiaspóricos of Universidad Icesi/Colombia. He is a free-lancer journalist and anti-prison activist. He is also the author of The Anti-Black City: Police Terror and Black Urban Life in Brazil (University of Minnesota Press, 2018) and co-editor of Cartographies of Anti-blackness: Geographies of Policing and Pedagogies of Resistance in the Americas (forthcoming).
