Fusako Shigenobu

Shigenobu Fusako

Fusako Shigenobu was born in Tokyo in 1945. She became involved in revolutionary movements during the 1960s, participating in the protests against the US War in Vietnam, as well as the student struggles against tuition hikes. In February 1971, she left Japan for the Arab world. Initially volunteering with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), she went on to co-found the Japanese Red Army in 1974. For nearly 30 years, she lived among the Palestinian people, taking part in their liberation struggle. She was arrested in November 2000 after secretly returning to Japan and later served a prison sentence. She was released in May 2022 upon completion of her term. Since her release, she has continued her unwavering support for Palestine through writing and public speaking. Her major works include My Love, My Revolution (1974), Season of Revolution: From the Battlefield of Palestine, Records of the Fighters: Living in Palestine, The Era of Twenty: The Sixties and Me, Poetry Collection: Star of Dawn, History of the Palestinian Liberation Struggle 1916–2024, and Days of Outrage.
