Elise A. Mitchell is a writer and historian of slavery and healing in the Black Atlantic. She currently resides in Philadelphia and is a Presidential Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of History at Princeton University. Broadly, her work examines the social and political histories of embodiment, healing, disease, race, and gender in the early modern Atlantic World, with a focus on the Caribbean region. Her essays have appeared in ‘Black Perspectives’ and ‘The Atlantic: Ideas,’ as well as academic journals and edited volumes.
