State of Exception City

The following interview is an excerpt of the conversation the Funambulist hosted with Philippe Theophanidis for its podcast platform, Archipelago. Recorded on March 27, 2015 in Montreal, this dialogue considered Boston and Istanbul as paradigms of state of exception cities when, in 2013, they experienced a heavy engagement by various policing agencies. This excerpt focuses on the Boston manhunt of April 19, 2013, when 2,500 police officers were deployed in the city to arrest Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who has been found guilty for his participation in the Boston Marathon bombings that occurred four days earlier.
