Tigray, Oromia, and the Ethiopian Empire with Zoé Samudzi, Ayantu Tibeso & J. Khadijah Abdurahman

Conversation recorded on October 27, 2021 to celebrate The Funambulist’s 37th issue Against Genocide (Sep-Oct. 2021), guest edited by Zoé Samudzi. This special issue constructs a dialogue between genocidal histories in Zimbabwe, Brazil, Ethiopia, Korea, Namibia, the U.S., Artsakh and more while critiquing the legal and political concept of genocide as calibrated on eurocentric criteria.

The event began with a brief presentation by Léopold Lambert on the magazine (missing from the video). Zoé Samudzi then introduced the issue and interviews Ayantu Tibeso and J. Khadijah Abdurahman about their contribution to the issue examining the relationship between Tigray, Oromia, and other oppressed regions is entangled in the imperial origins of the state of Ethiopia.
