# BOOKS /// Landscape Futures Bundle

In the context of the exhibition Landscape Future: Instruments, Devices and Architectural Invention curated by Geoff Manaugh at the Nevada Museum of Arts (August 13, 2011 – February 12, 2012), the Princeton Architectural Press had the good idea to create a “Landscape Futures Bundle” composed by three books written by some participants of the exhibition:

Subnature by David Gissen: As I had the occasion to write earlier, Subnature is a very interesting book, already used as a reference for another idea of ecology than the formatted one that capitalism sells every day. Express through historical and contemporaneous architectural and urban projects, this ecology is based on the consideration and integration as generator of all the sub-products of a too controlled environment: puddles, debris (see previous article), mud, dust, smoke, insects etc.

Augmented Landscape by Mark Smout and Laura Allen: This issue 28 of the famous Pamphlet Architecture explores the series of landscape intervention created by the two Bartlett tutors in the last years. Registered in what can now be called a British tradition, their means of representation (models and drawings) here seem to be as much important as what is being represented. In such way, boundaries between what is usually understood as “nature” and “artifice” is blurred in an architectural reinterpretation of the landscapes.

Coupling: Strategies for Infrastructural Opportunism by Infranet Lab/Lateral Office: This is another Pamphlet Architecture issue, number 30. The projects introduced in this small book are probably the ones that can be said to be ecological in the most traditional meaning of the term; however, the ingenuity of those propositions and their detailed design are a good complement to the two first ones. The didactic aspects of the various maps and diagrams as much as the consideration for all the concerned scale of the projects provide an informed vision of what those projects could be if being built.
